City Tech Student Takes Top Prize in JWT Differenter Fall College Art Battle
City Tech Advertising Design & Graphic Arts student Pak Yin Chan and Professor Douglas Davis participated in the JWT Differenter Fall College Art Battle in November 2011. Chan tied for first place in the competition, receiving a $500 scholarship, and Davis was a judge.
The Spring 2011 Art Battle for advertising agencies was the first of its kind and highly successful with industry leaders from Global Hue, JWT, Y&R, Merkley & Partners, Concept Farm and Hill Holliday. The fall 2011 competition showcased up and coming creative young art students from local colleges. Each ad or design student was assigned a theme around the topic of diversity and a list of art materials that were provided at the event 24 hours later. During the competition, each artist was given a blank canvas, a painter’s kit and 90 minutes to create an artistic expression of the theme.
“Professor Davis,” says Chan, “has been a great mentor to me and many other student who have taken his advertising design class. He inspired me to be creative and conceptual – skills that I applied to my work in the competition.”
