Borough President and MetroTech BID Executive on Campus
to View Students’ TKTS Project Work
Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and MetroTech BID Executive Director Michael Weiss were at New York City College of Technology on September 29, 2009, to view the design concepts completed by Department of Architectural Technology students for a proposed more prominently located TKTS ticket booth near Borough Hall.
Manhattan is home to a large, full-service TKTS ticket booth in Times Square, but Downtown Brooklyn houses only a more modest facility at MetroTech Center. Members of architectural technology faculty had proposed that a larger facility be built near Brooklyn Borough Hall to accommodate the needs of the Borough’s thousands of theatre-goers. The department’s Design Course students then went to work on various renderings for such a facility. Borough President Markowitz and Weiss spent time with the students at Voorhees Hall to have at look at their concepts and models. There were plenty of questions from the Borough President, who was fascinated by the great designs, and plenty of excellent answers from the students. Their careful research was evident in their thoughtful designs.
According to Professor Lia Dikigoropoulou, “While still in an exploratory phase, the proposed new facility would be a memorable design statement representing the vibrancy of the New York theatre, Brooklyn Borough Hall and Brooklyn itself. While the booth’s core function would be to sell discounted day-of-performance tickets for New York theatres, its broader function would be to serve as a marker and information resource for all of Brooklyn, Manhattan’s Theatre District and New York’s diverse performing arts industry.”
