City Tech Foundation and Executive Director Honored at 2009 Chanukah Celebration
The City Tech Foundation (CTF) and Executive Director Jewel Escobar were honored at the Jewish Faculty & Staff Association’s (JFSA) 2009 Chanukah Celebration on December 17.
Ms. Escobar was named an honorary JFSA member in recognition of her longstanding support for the association’s guest speaker series and other College educational programs. CTF was saluted for the funding assistance it has provided JFSA that helped it bring world-class speakers to campus for more than a decade. Martin Jaffe, who chairs the CTF board of directors, accepted the award on behalf of the Foundation. JFSA President Albert Sherman made the presentations.
During his program remarks, Rabbi Alan Kay, a retired City Tech English professor, expressed how especially pleased he was to share in honoring a dedicated individual such as Ms. Escobar. Rabbi Kay noted that “Chanukah” means “dedication” and in its annual celebratory context implies “re-dedication.” During the reception, retired Acting Dean of Education James Goldman reinforced Rabbi Kay’s remark. “Time and time again,” Goldman told other guests, “Jewel Escobar has demonstrated remarkable dedication in her work on behalf of the College and its students.”
An estimated 80-100 faculty, staff, students, retirees and other guests attended some portion of the 90-minute celebration. Despite an especially busy day, City Tech President Russell K. Hotzler also attended and enjoyed the latkes, apple sauce and chocolate.
