Launch of B. J. Denihan Lecture Series in Hospitality Management Is Unqualified Success

Launch of B. J. Denihan Lecture Series in Hospitality Management Is Unqualified Success

“The event could not have been a bigger success and the guest speaker more inspirational for all in attendance,” says New York City College of Technology (City Tech) Hospitality Management Professor Patrick O’Halloran, coordinator of the department’s new B. J. Denihan Lecture Series.

The series launched to a capacity audience in City Tech’s Thomas Ahrens Amphitheater with an insightful presentation by Alex Spektor, general manager of Affinia Gardens, which is part of the Denihan Hospitality Group, owner or operator of 12 hotels in New York, Chicago and Washington, DC. The group is composed of three brands – Affinia Hotels, The Benjamin and The James. Naming the lecture series after the organization’s founder was City Tech’s way of honoring the Deniham Hospitality Group for its unwavering support for the hospitality management department.

Pictured here, from left, are Professors John Akana and O’Halloran, Mr. Spektor, Dean of Professional Studies Barbara Grumet and Professor James Reid. Spektor, a graduate of the City Tech program, discussed his career in hotel management and how his success was due in large measure to the solid education he received at the College. The second lecture will be held on October 29, 2009, and will feature a presentation by Hanna Lee, president and founder of Hanna Lee Communications, Inc. The lectures are free and are open to the College community and general public. For more information, contact Professor O’Halloran at pohalloran@citytech.cuny.edu.
