French exchange students and celebrity chef Michael Lomonaco ’84 at Porter House New York
Sixteen visiting French exchange students toured Porter House New York in the Time Warner Center and enjoyed a superb luncheon as part of a two-week course of study at City Tech during June 2008. Their tour was hosted by City Tech graduate and celebrity chef Michael Lomonaco ’84, the acclaimed restaurant’s managing partner.
The French students were part of the College’s nine-year-old international exchange program with Université d’Evry/Val d’Essonne, the University of Paris’ college of technology. Accompanying them to New York were Université d’Evry officials Alexander Boulet and Frederick Goodman.

While the French students were studying urban tourism under Department of Hospitality Management Professors Lynda Dias and Susan Phillip, 14 City Tech students were at Université d’Evry studying European culture and approaches to travel and tourism, wine selection and the culinary and pastry arts. The American students were accompanied to France by Professor Louise Hoffman and Professor Emeritus Francis Lorenzini. They will make a presentation titled “A Walking Tour of Paris” at City Tech on Thursday, September 18, from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m.
In related news, three additional hospitality management students are spending two months in France this summer interning in kitchens in the Pyrenees and Alsace regions. This opportunity was made possible through the Department of Hospitality Management’s Thomas Ahrens International Work/Study Program.
