City Tech Men’s Soccer Team Scores Two Straight Non-Conference Wins in September
The City Tech Yellow Jackets men’s soccer team scored two straight non-conference wins the week of September 22. In its first victory against neighboring Polytechnic University, Devon Lewis of Poly scored the first goal early in the Flushing Meadows contest. With seven minutes to go before halftime, City Tech junior David Freire evened the score. Then, early in the second half, the Yellow Jackets’ Noah Miller scored another goal, increasing his team’s lead to 2-1. The City Tech victory was sealed by a huge save late in the game by freshman goalie Ariel Mejia.
Home field advantage was alive and well as the Yellow Jackets chalked up their second straight win of the week against Old Westbury College. Man of the hour Noah Miller scored midway through the second half on an assist from junior Nestor Pardes to give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead. In the second half, an assist from freshman Carl Michel enabled freshman Marcin Baran to score the second goal of the game for the Yellow Jackets, increasing the team’s lead to 2-0. The high-powered scoring was complemented by an equally stellar performance by goalie Ariel Mejia, who had a total of seven saves and was credited with the first shutout of his career.
