Four dental laboratory technology students from New York City College of Technology’s Department of Restorative Dentistry presented table demonstrations at the 84th Annual Session of the Greater New York Dental Meeting on November 30, 2008. The Dental Technician Table Demonstrations, a new category of participation at the annual meeting, were held for the very first time this year.

Student Koaru Ruko Yamaki presented “Maxillofacial Prostheses: Implant Supported Nose Reconstruction;” Rocio German exhibited “Micro-Ceramic Indirect Composite Resin Veneers;” and Milos Markovic and Oscar Galvis discussed differences and similarities in the “Esthetical Aspects of PFM & All Ceramic Restorations.”

The students worked on their projects under the supervision and mentoring of Professors Renata Budny and Avis Smith during spring, summer and fall 2008. The students’ demonstrations allowed for one-on-one interaction with meeting attendees on these and a vast array of related restorative dentistry topics. At the end of the event, Dental Technician Table Demonstration prizes in the amount of $250 were awarded Yamaki and the Markovic/Galvis team.

The scientific programs at this year’s Greater New York Dental Meeting, the largest event of its kind held in United States, attracted some 55,000 renowned clinicians, speakers, lecturers, manufacturers, exhibitors and other guests from 113 countries worldwide. The event was held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Manhattan.
