The intersection of Adams Street and Tech Place in Downtown Brooklyn is not known for its cafes or bookstores. But that's about to change with the official grand opening of New York City College of Technology's (City Tech) new combination bookstore/café.

The ribbon-cutting will take place on Friday, January 18, at 11 a.m. The event will feature complimentary refreshments, great give-aways and the raffling off of an RCA Truflat stereo television. In addition, there will be 20 percent off general reading books and 15 percent off clothing and gift items (restrictions apply).

Managed by Follett Higher Education Group -- a family-owned bookstore provider in business for 133 years with more than 750 bookstores nationwide -- the City Tech facility, located on the College's campus, is easily accessible on the ground floor of 259 Adams Street, with another entrance at 55 Tech Place.

In addition to serving the College's 13,500 students and nearby Polytechnic University's 3,000 students, the bookstore/café is open to the general public. The 4,500-square-foot retail facility will offer much more than textbooks: customers can browse the fiction and non-fiction books, magazines and other items, including academic pricing on computers and software, a complete collection of City Tech and Polytech clothing and gift items, and a faculty author section.

The full-service café will serve Green Mountain coffee, including espresso and cappuccino, breakfast and snack items and health juice drinks.

"Now there will be a place for students and the general public to relax and unwind right on Adams Street during the day and in the evening," says store manager Melissa White. "We will do our best to exceed our customers' expectations."

The initial hours of operation of the bookstore/café will be Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The facility will be closed on Sunday. For more information, visit www.citytech.bkstr.com or call 718.855.7339.
