‘Grads’ Gift to Bartholomew Scholarship Fund
At the Department of Hospitality Management’s annual Baccalaureate Dinner in early May, the Class of 2007 presented a class gift of $400 to the Patricia S. Bartholomew Careers Through Culinary Arts Program Endowed Scholarship Fund. Before her death, Dr. Bartholomew, a pioneering chef/educator who was chair of the hospitality management program at City Tech for many years, established the fund to assist current and future students in achieving their educational goals leading to careers in the restaurant and hospitality industry.
The 2007 dinner saluted Distinguished Alumnus Thomas Travers ’73, general manager of the Beacon Hotel, and Outstanding Industry Professional Javiar Vargas, director of food and beverage at the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge. The theme of this year’s dinner was “Aloha: Let’s Luau,” and the event included the presentation of awards to graduating students for their academic and other achievements.
