‘Personalities’ Opening Reception Draws Large Crowd

‘Personalities’ Opening Reception Draws Large Crowd

The crowd just kept on getting bigger and bigger on Tuesday evening, March 6, at the Opening Reception of “Personalities,” an exhibition of portrait drawings and photographs by student members of City Tech’s Life Drawing Club and iCapture, the photography club. The works of 24 advertising design and graphic arts students were displayed, with professional framing generously underwritten by the City Tech Student Government Association.

Coordinated by club Presidents Kaori Yonekura and Francisco Lopez, Professor Robin Michals, iCapture faculty advisor, and Professor Leonard Petrillo, Drawing Club faculty advisor, the exhibit featured drawings and photos by Anthonico Whyte, Brian Powell, Carlos Ojeda, Changjing Xu, Cuong Dieu, Debie Lachman, Donald Adé, Honghui He, Hsien-chi Meng, Jaeik Song, Kashfia Rahman, Le Quan, Li Lin, Limor Garfinkle, Louis Rivera, Maurice Freeman, MD Tokon, Noriyuki Kuroda, Paul Baidatsky, Peng Xu, Samuel Cortez and Sut Lo, together with Yonekura and Lopez.

The promotion for the exhibition asked the question, “Does a portrait reflect the personality of the subject or the artist or photographer?” A canvas of the audience that night clearly suggested that the answer is “both.”

“The students did a wonderful job bringing the exhibit together,” said Professor Michals. “Kaori Yonekura and Francisco Lopez were driving forces behind the show. Their creative talents and hard work made the event a success.”

Something else that was in anything but short supply on March 6 was talent. According to Professor Petrillo, “City Tech is home to many gifted student artists and photographers. Not only do they bring real distinction to themselves through their work, they are an inspiration to and enrich the learning experience of so many other students throughout the department.”
