Sometimes It Pays to Cross the Line
City Tech human services student Nooria Nodrat, who is totally blind, finished the New York City Marathon in 7:39:25. She completed the course despite numbness in her legs and hands that occurred in the 24th mile of the 26.2-mile race. Nodrat, an immigrant from Afghanistan who was blinded during an attack by a mentally disturbed teenager in the New York City subway and has gone on to help many other visually impaired people, was profiled on WNBC Channel 4 and in the Daily News, and was NY1 News' “New Yorker of the Week.” She is shown after the race being interviewed by Associated Press reporter Karen Matthews.
