Entertainment Technology Students Benefit from Week-Long Demonstration of Revolutionary Live Performance Console System

The Department of Entertainment Technology hosted a week-long demonstration for City Tech students and faculty as well as industry professionals of the new Midas XL-8 live performance console system in December 2006 – a major contribution, for sure, to the training entertainment technology students receive in view of the extraordinary “buzz” this revolutionary new system is generating throughout the industry.

“The department really appreciates the time and thoroughness that Jim Pfitzinger from Midas devoted to the demonstration of the remarkable capabilities of this new performance system,” says Professor John Huntington. “Students were able to spend hours of hands-on time on this brand new console.”

According to Midas, the XL-8 live performance system is truly revolutionary and heralds the company's entry into the digital mixing realm. However, this is not merely another digital mixing console. The XL-8 offers an incomparable design combining exemplary sound quality, flexibility and reliability with an ease and familiarity of use unrivalled by other digital control surfaces. XL-8 is the first of a new generation of open-architecture, cross-platform, integrated audio control and distribution systems, which brings control of not only audio, but other aspects of a live performance to a single, intuitive control center.

“Hosting new equipment demonstrations and bringing in experts like Midas’ Jim Pfitzinger,” adds Huntington, “is just one aspect of what makes the entertainment technology program at City Tech one of the most comprehensive and best in the country. To advance in their careers, our graduates need to be completely familiar with the latest advances in entertainment technology and as familiar as possible even with emerging technologies still on the drawing boards.”
