Give Kids a Smile Day at City Tech

Give Kids a Smile Day at City Tech

On February 2, 2007, students and faculty in the Department of Dental Hygiene again participated in “Give Kids a Smile Day,” an annual initiative of the American Dental Association (ADA). Held each February in collaboration with the Oral Health Committee of the Second District Dental Society, a component of the New York State Dental Association, the event is designed to focus attention on the national epidemic of untreated oral disease among America's children. This is the fourth consecutive year that City Tech has served as an official site for this event.

Under the supervision of faculty members Dr. Nancy Ekelman and Anty Lam RDH, and two volunteers from the Second District Dental Society, Dr. Reneida Reyes and Dr. Sophia Scantelbury, the class of senior dental hygiene students provided dental examinations, prophylaxis, fluoride treatments, sealant applications, toothbrushing instructions and referrals for further professional dental health treatment to scores of Brooklyn youngsters. The activity was coordinated by Professor Anty Lam and Dr. Stanley Steinerman.

The Department of Dental Hygiene also operates a dental hygiene clinic throughout the school year, offering a variety of free or low-cost dental hygiene services and a free sealant application program to City Tech students, faculty, alumni and community residents. For clinic hours and to make an appointment, call 718.260.5074.
