‘Anatomy of a Brownstone IV’ Looks at Layouts, Lifestyle, Labor
New York City College of Technology's Division of Continuing Education and the Department of Architectural Technology joined together to present “Anatomy of a Brownstone IV: Layouts, Lifestyles, Labor," the fourth offering in this popular series devoted to the design, renovation and restoration of New York City brownstones.
City Tech Professors and licensed architects Jill Bouratoglou and Robert Zagaroli 3rd, pictured here, showed the design for a small but elegant and very functional bathroom. Interior designer Debra Salomon shared three interior design plans -- from traditional to transitional to contemporary. Jennifer Napoli and Gerard Owens, kitchen and bath designers, discussed a wide range of products available for today’s brownstone homeowner. Tomas Tisch, who creates reproductions and original designs for architectural cut glass, showed examples of his work in townhouses around the world.
Pietro Calabratta and Allan Suarez, a contractor and homeowner, spoke about a recent Windsor Terrace renovation and shared information about preserving woodwork, stains, plaster, moldings, pocket door hardware and how to maintain one’s sanity during construction. Larry Ubell, a New York State-licensed building inspector who has looked into the nooks and crannies of hundreds of brownstones, made the audience laugh and cry by sharing photos of shoddy jobs he has inspected.
The next in the Anatomy of a Brownstone Series will take place on Saturday, May 12, and will focus on “The Brownstoner’s Marketplace.”
