Upstate Comes Downstate for Architectural Advice from City Tech Students

City Tech students saw their designs for the first phase of development of a waterfront park at Greenwood Lake -- including an expanded beach, amphitheater, theatrical stage, gazebo and driveway circulation -- implemented by the Village of Greenwood Lake in 2006.

On Thursday, March 29, from 2:30 to 5 p.m., they will compete against one another to see whose designs will be chosen for the second phase of the project, which includes a conservation center and community building, as well as models of proposed pergolas that will frame in the magnificent views of the lake. In all, 40 designs with accompanying architectural models and computer drawings, renderings and animations will be presented.

In attendance will be the Village of Greenwood Lake (NY) Mayor Barbara Moore, Warwick Town Councilman Leonard DeBuck and Warwick Town Supervisor Michael Sweeton. Greenwood Lake is located in Orange County, less than 60 miles from Manhattan.

The competition will take place in Voorhees Hall, 186 Jay Street (north of Tillary Street), Room V-111.

Greenwood Lake resident Dr. Emilie Cozzi, former provost and former acting president of City Tech, facilitated the connection between Greenwood Lake officials and the architectural technology program at the College. She will be on hand as one of the judges for this design competition. A giant model of the entire waterfront park, showing the completed improvements, will serve as a jumping-off point for the student presentations.

Local officials had estimated that the value of the City Tech student and faculty in-kind contributions to the first phase of the project exceeded $100,000.
