In a keynote address kicking off City Tech's 2006 Job Expo on April 27, Joseph R. Marciano, president and CEO of Océ Business Services, shared with an audience estimated at 800 students, faculty, alumni, employment recruiters and other guests some of his personal insights and lessons learned about being successful in business and in life today.

Equipped with a cordless mic and foregoing the more traditional stage-center podium, Marciano interacted with the audience from the Klitgord Center Auditorium floor as he offered his thoughts on the value of hard work and the importance of professional development and ethical behavior throughout one's career. His remarks also focused on the importance of maintaining a steadfast determination to set oneself apart, the positive impact of treating people at all levels of an organization with courtesy and respect, and the power of believing in oneself, setting high aspirations and creating one's own good luck.

"Mr. Marciano delivered an insightful keynote to our students, alumni and other members of the audience," said Dr. Jerome H. Blue, interim vice president for research, governmental and corporate relations, "advising them on values that can have a profound effect on the success of an individual's career and personal life. His remarks exemplified the mentoring skills we look for in our speakers, and our students appreciated his personable demeanor and sincerity."

Océ Business Services, with headquarters in Chicago, Illinois, is one of the world's leading providers of document process management services, equipment and software solutions for the office and public sector markets. The company integrates advanced technology, people and processes to manage business document assets throughout their lifecycle. Océ outsourcing solutions span copy and print, document needs assessment, fleet management, mail distribution and fulfillment, imaging and records management, office services and business performance management. The firm is part of Netherlands-based Océ N.V., a firm active in 80 countries with a workforce of 24,000 people and pro forma annualized revenues of nearly $3.7 billion.

Following Mr. Marciano's presentation, nearly 400 graduating students and alumni had the opportunity to interact with representatives from companies recruiting to fill positions across a broad spectrum of professional fields in both the public and private sectors. Recruiters were on hand from business firms and other organizations as diverse as Con Edison, Health Plus, Hilton Hotels, New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Primerica Financial Services, Sumisho Computer Systems (USA), Time Warner Cable, UPS, the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the FBI, New York City Department of Buildings, MTA/NYC Transit, and the U.S. Navy as well as Océ Business Services.

The City Tech Alumni Association, which helps promote the annual event, again was on hand to welcome graduates back to campus. "We are always delighted to work with City Tech's Placement Office in providing Alumni Association members with this additional opportunity to test the job market waters and explore options in their careers," said Alumni Relations Director Helen Covington. "The annual Job Expo is another example of the many ways in which the College demonstrates its commitment to its graduates and other former students."

Adrian Griffith, City Tech's director of placement, was pleased with the results of this year's Job Expo. "More than 50 major companies and public agencies participated in this year's event, and many of these were repeat participants from previous years. As an employment services specialist, I can tell you that this fact speaks well for the overall quality of the graduating students and alumni who attend the expo and meet with the recruiters. This also speaks well to the first-rate job that City Tech's outstanding faculty is doing to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to enter and advance in today's increasingly competitive job market. A City Tech education continues to be recognized by the private and public sectors alike as integral to the development of a highly skilled workforce throughout the city, state and nation."
