Food Drive

This year, Vice President Marcela Armoza and the staff of Enrollment and Student Affairs was proud to work in conjunction with the school’s NYPIRG office, headed by Edward Para, and The Food Bank for New York City to run a Holiday Can Drive. Staff of the various departments brought canned goods to the annual division Holiday party. The donations were plentiful and will be turned over by the Food Bank to various affiliated agencies that service the needy throughout the City.

Founded in 1983 and based in Hunts Point, NY, The Food Bank for New York City is a member of The Nation’s Food Bank Network and America’s Second Harvest, and are the only food ‘bank’ in the City. The Food Bank sponsors food donation drives with several government and private corporations, public organizations, groups and clubs, and individuals throughout the year with donations made by manufacturers, retail markets and generous citizens alike. After collection, the food is distributed to soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters, daycare, senior and youth centers, rehabs and outreach centers. Besides distribution services, the Food Bank also runs nutrition and food safety workshops. Click here (pdf) for can distribution images.
