Larry R. Felix, director of the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing in Washington, DC, returned to his alma mater, New York City College of Technology (City Tech), on June 28 to receive the Alumnus of the Year Award. The highest ranking government official to graduate from City Tech, Felix drew a hearty round of applause from the more than 100 attendees at the annual alumni association meeting when he announced the creation of 10 internships for City Tech students, which he said could lead to permanent positions with the bureau.
Felix received an associate degree in liberal arts in 1980 from City Tech, and credited the College with giving him "an invaluable broad-based education and interest in technology" that have served him well in his career at the bureau, particularly in his supervision of enhancements in anti-counterfeiting technology. The first in his family to graduate from college, Felix was born in Trinidad and grew up in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.
