City Tech Celebrates Black History Month
Black History Month originated 80 years ago, in 1926, in a single-week celebration created by Carter G. Woodson, a distinguished Harvard historian. Woodson, the son of former slaves, spent much of his life struggling for the American public to begin to recognize the many important contributions of African Americans to our history, our economy, our culture, our lives.
While much remains to be done, Woodson’s dream of wide public recognition has become reality. Today, Black History Month is celebrated each February across the nation, in lectures and displays, in websites and television documentaries. We at City Tech are proud to recognize the many African Americans who are part of our family, and the important contributions they and their ancestors have made and continue to make to our lives. Listed below are the events and exhibits at City Tech commemorating Black History Month in February 2006.
