12th Annual Auction Attracts Record Gathering

The 12th Annual Gifts and Services Live & Silent Auction at New York City College of Technology drew a record audience on December 7, 2006. The event featured a ranch mink coat as well as selected items of wood and stone sculpture from an estate collection of African art recently donated to the College.

Auctioneers Thomas Carroll, retired City Tech vice president for human resources, Professor Mary Alice Browne, chair of the Department of Radiologic Technology & Medical Imaging, and Professor Nicholas Manos, chair of the Department of Restorative Dentistry, kept the audience laughing and bids on the rise during a 90-minute live auction that featured nearly 30 choice items.

In addition to the fierce competition for the mink coat, auction guests also bid on international vacation packages; “day or night on the town” shopping and entertainment packages, including one featuring gift cards to many of Fifth Avenue’s most prestigious stores; “weekend getaways” at leading New York City hotels; fine jewelry; selected electronics; holiday gift baskets galore; personal, instructional and professional services; books and subscriptions; museum memberships; household items; and brunches, lunches and dinners for two or more at top New York City and Tri-State area restaurants, from Manhattan’s new Porter House New York at Time Warner Center and famed Union Square Café to South Norwalk, Connecticut’s acclaimed Pasta Nostra and Great Neck, Long Island’s ever-popular Peter Luger Steakhouse.

Under the direction of Professors Jean Claude and Louise Hoffman, City Tech culinary and pastry arts students prepared and served auction guests a five-course gourmet buffet dinner before the live auction that followed a wine, cheese and crudités reception during the earlier silent bidding.

Sponsored by the New York City College of Technology Foundation (CTF), the annual auction supports the Lorraine Beitler Student Resource Endowment Fund. Proceeds from the fund enable City Tech students to participate in curriculum-related local, regional, national and international professional conferences and competitions.
