City Tech to Host Free Spanish-Language Seminars for Hispanic Owners of Small Businesses Starting March 16
New York City College of Technology (City Tech) of The City University of New York (CUNY) will host a four-week series of free seminars, “Éxito Empresarial,” providing Hispanic small business owners with the tools and resources needed to grow their businesses in New York City. The series begins on Wednesday, March 16, at 6 p.m., in the College’s Atrium Amphitheater.
The seminars, which will be conducted in Spanish, will be held on successive Wednesdays through April 2, from 6 to 9 p.m. Class size is limited to 45 participants. They are sponsored by Staples, Con Edison, El Diario/La Prensa newspaper, the Small Business Administration (SBA), and City Tech’s parent institution, The City University of New York (CUNY).
The Éxito Empresarial seminars are SBA-designed training courses offering instruction in marketing, accounting, technology, financial planning and business plan development for small business owners and entrepreneurs looking to build cornerstones of sound commercial management. They are being held in CUNY colleges throughout the New York City area in order to serve the greatest number of people interested in strengthening their business skills. At the end of the series, graduates are awarded a certificate of completion from the SBA.
The teaming brings together five community-minded organizations that are committed to the challenge of connecting Latinos with a learning opportunity that can catapult them into a world of business success and independence.
“The partnerships we forge with community groups and initiatives are vital to our mission, and we are pleased to host these invaluable free seminars that will help many Brooklynites,” said City Tech President Russell K. Hotzler. “We welcome them to our campus, which has a diverse student body that is more than 25 percent Latino, and is conveniently located at MetroTech Center in Downtown Brooklyn, easily accessible by all subway and bus lines serving the downtown area.”
The “Éxito Empresarial” series of seminars will be held subsequently at CUNY colleges in three other boroughs – Manhattan (City College, April 27-May 18), Bronx (Lehman College, June 1-8) and Queens (LaGuardia Community College, Sept. 14-Oct. 5).
“The initiative is just the latest in our very aggressive, ongoing efforts to take the message of entrepreneurship and the SBA directly into the Hispanic community,” said New York District Director Jose Sifontes. “We’re fortunate to have the co-sponsors of this series dedicated to the same goal and assisting us in this exciting opportunity.”
Éxito Empresarial began in Los Angeles in 2004 with El Diario’s
sister publication La Opinión. “Since our founding in 1913, our
driving force has been to inform, promote and celebrate our diverse Latino
community,” said Rossana Rosado, publisher and CEO of El Diario/La Prensa. “Exito
Empresarial is an extension of this mission and will deliver the resources
and support
small businesses need in order to grow exponentially. We look forward to working
with our community-minded partners and addressing our small business owners’ needs.”
