Miguel F. Cairol Named Dean (Acting) for Planning
and Special Assistant to the President

Dr. Miguel F. Cairol, a veteran senior-level college administrator and business professor, has been named acting dean for planning and special assistant to the president at New York City College of Technology (City Tech). He will assist the new president of City Tech, Dr. Russell K. Hotzler, with all aspects of the operations of the College.

In announcing Dr. Cairol’s appointment, President Hotzler said: “I am delighted that Miguel is joining us. His background and skills will be invaluable as we revitalize the College’s administration and expand the campus facilities at the Klitgord Center site.”

Dr. Cairol, who is an evaluator for the Middle States Association’s Commission on Higher Education, began his career at CUNY in 1987 when he joined the administration at Queensborough Community College. Over the next 11 years, he held a variety of executive positions at the college, including dean of facilities management, dean of faculty and staff relations, dean of academic planning and dean of administrative affairs.

In addition to holding these positions at Queensborough, Dr. Cairol is a tenured professor of business administration and was actively immersed in departmental and college-wide activities. Most recently, he served as dean for planning and special assistant to the president at York College/CUNY. He holds a PhD in organizational behavior and management with a marketing minor and an MPhil from The CUNY Graduate Center. He also holds an MBA from Baruch College/CUNY in business policy and administration, and a BS in management science from California State University at Los Angeles.

Before beginning his career at CUNY, Dr. Cairol was vice president for administration and finance at The College of Insurance, where he was also a tenured faculty member and served as chairman of the business division and director of the graduate business program. His teaching honors there included Professor of the Year and the MBA Medal. In addition, he was visiting professor at Interamerican University of Puerto Rico and taught graduate business courses in Spanish.

Dr. Cairol lives in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn with his wife, Maria, and two daughters, Michelle and Margaret.
