Brooklyn Borough President Recognizes City Tech Student in 2004 State of the Borough Address, Also Unveils New Tourism and Visitors Center
City Tech students Edward Chin and wife, Anna Fu
Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz recognized City Tech student Edward Chin in his 2004 State of the Borough Address delivered at Edward R. Murrow High School in February. Chin, at the time a U.S. Marine Corporal, received international media attention in spring 2003 when he draped an American flag and then the Iraqi flag over the head of a statue of Saddam Hussein following the liberation of Baghdad.
A City Tech student before enlisting in the Marines in 1999, Chin resumed his studies in architectural technology at the College last fall following his discharge from the military. His wife, Anna Fu, is a City Tech civil engineering technology student and a National Science Foundation Scholar. Following completion of their studies, the two plan to establish a husband-and-wife consulting firm that will wave the flag for environmental clean-up and protection.
In his annual address, the Borough President also discussed Brooklyn's new emphasis on bringing more tourists to the borough. To this end, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at Borough Hall on February 12 to mark the official opening of Brooklyn's new Tourism and Visitors Center. Students and faculty from City Tech's award-winning Department of Hospitality Management are part of a consortium of civic and community organizations spearheading the center's efforts. Department interim chair James Reid participated in the ceremony.
Also participating was Rick Russo, the Brooklyn
Chamber of Commerce's vice president of business services and director
of the NYC Business Solutions Center, who is joining the City Tech
Foundation's board of directors this month. Russo looks forward
to more greatly engaging City Tech's academic resources and faculty
expertise -- particularly in the engineering and computer systems
technologies -- in efforts to further strengthen the economic viability
and competitiveness of businesses throughout the borough.
