Six-foot-seven junior center Shacun Malave from the Bronx scored 20 points, grabbed 15 rebounds, had seven blocked shots and passed for four assists as the City Tech Yellow Jackets reached The City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) finals by defeating the College of Staten Island, 84-75.

The victory brings the fifth-seeded Yellow Jackets' record to 16-10, and sets up a showdown with Lehman College, the number three seed, which defeated John Jay College in the other semifinal, 81-73. The City Tech/Lehman match-up will take place on Friday, February 27, at 7:45 p.m. at York College in Queens. Tickets are required and are available without charge in City Tech's Office of Athletics & Recreation in Klitgord Center, room 214.

Jason Senior and Clyde Forteau also starred in Tuesday night's victory. Senior, a 6'4" junior forward from Brooklyn, was co-leader with Malave in points scored with 20, and also had four assists. Forteau, a 5'7" sophomore guard from the Bronx, had 17 points and 14 rebounds. Roger Redhead, a 6'3" senior forward from Brooklyn, contributed 12 points, with three three-pointers, to the winning effort. The Yellow Jackets led at halftime, 45-34.

It is only City Tech's second appearance in the CUNYAC Men's Basketball Tournament and the first as a full-fledged NCAA member. The Yellow Jackets began Division III play in the 1999-2000 academic year as an NCAA provisional member.

The winner of the City Tech-Lehman game earns an automatic bid to the Division III NCAA tournament as the CUNY Athletic Conference champion.
