Thirty-three former varsity basketball players returned to campus in late February to participate in this year’s face-off against 26 faculty and staff members in the New York City College of Technology Alumni Association’s 3rd Annual Alumni Reunion Basketball Game.
According to Office of Alumni Relations communications consultant Donna Jones, who provided the background for this story, “More than 300 current and former students, faculty, staff, administrators and the City Tech men’s basketball team filled Klitgord Center Gymnasium to capacity to cheer on their favorite players in the Alumni Association's first ever alumni vs. faculty and staff competition. The game ended with a score of 62-57 in favor of the alumni team.”
“For the third year in a row, it was a very close game until the final minutes,” said outgoing Alumni Association President Karen Bonsignore. “It was a free and fun event designed to bring alumni back to campus, and it was very well attended.” Following the game, both Bonsignore and City Tech President Fred W. Beaufait were presented with commemorative basketballs signed by all 59 players. Another two balls were presented to the most valuable player from each team.

“The game brings together in a very congenial way the men and women who participated in our varsity basketball program across the years,” said Ray Amalbert, the College’s director of athletics. “As time goes by, many lose touch, and this annual event is a terrific way of reconnecting them with old friends and introducing them to new ones.”
“The Alumni Association is committed to supporting both alumni and current students,” Jones added, “by providing them with social and other activities throughout the year that help them stay in touch with one another. In collaboration with the Placement Office and other College units, it also supports alumni by providing job search services, career development programs and other benefits that enable them to remain connected with City Tech and the valuable resources it can provide.”
Following the game, a reception was held in City Tech’s Janet Lefler Dining Room. Gilles Guillou, a 1994 graduate of the College’s hospitality management program and general manager of Manhattan’s Club 101, catered a sumptuous buffet for the festive networking opportunity that concluded the evening.
