'Perspectives' Marks Silver Anniversary with Gala Publication Party

Perspectives

Perspectives, New York City College of Technology's faculty and staff journal, marked 25 years of continuous publication at a gala publication party in May in the College's Janet Lefler Dining Room. The journal was created during academic year 1977/78 by Professor Alan Kay, its founding editor-in-chief, and a small group of interested City Tech faculty largely from what was then the Writing & Speech Department.

Professor Kay and colleagues kept at it year after year. With each issue the number of writers increased, as did the number of academic departments contributing scholarly articles, essays, poetry and other works.

Under its second editor-in-chief, Professor Richard Hanley, came an increase in Perspectives' physical dimensions, new features and an emphasis on artwork. The journal's current editor-in-chief, Professor Richard Patterson, board of editors and many contributing writers and artists continue to work diligently to build on the earlier achievements of Kay and Hanley.

The May 22 Silver Anniversary Publication Party featured a salute to all who have helped shepherd the journal's growth and development over the past quarter of a century. Those honored included Professor Emeritus Lou Rivers, special assistant to the editor, and others who were there in the beginnings and who remain both members of the editorial board and contributors to each issue. Also saluted were Professors Pat Rudden, associate editor, Ellen Goldsmith, abstracts editor, Alice Richardson, poetry editor, and Zhao Chen, mathematics editor. Very special thanks were likewise extended to President Fred W. Beaufait, Provost Joann La Perla and Dean of Instruction Sonja Jackson, as well as to Professors Frank De Zego, Morris Hounion and Frank Masiello.

Special acknowledgment went to Perspectives' Art Director Dominick Sarica, executive director of the College's Office of Image/Visual Communication, and his staff for the spectacular cover design befitting the publication's silver anniversary issue.
