Alumnus/Illustrator Featured on CUNY-TV

Cartoonist and illustrator Randy DuBurke '85, a graduate of City Tech's advertising design program, was recently featured on "Study With The Best," the CUNY-TV magazine that airs on Sundays on Channel 75.

A native of Brooklyn who is currently living and working in Switzerland, DuBurke is illustrator of The Moon Ring, his first book and this fall's main children's title from Chronicle Books. The book, which recently garnered a good review from Publisher's Weekly, gives children a black heroine they can look up to. Move over, Alice, here comes Maxine, whose adventures from Antarctica to Africa are made possible through the aid of a magical moon ring.

DuBurke illustrations have appeared in The New York Times Book Review, Mad Magazine, D.C. and Marvel comics and science fiction magazines. Last year, City Tech's Grace Gallery hosted an exhibition of his illustrations. This fall he and fellow-artist Lance Tooks, author of Narcissa (Random House) and an illustrator whose artwork has appeared in more than 100 television commercials, spoke at the College on the future of picture books in the 21st century. Following the presentation, DuBurke was a guest of the College's Barnes & Noble Bookstore, where he autographed copies of The Moon Ring.

Other features currently being aired on CUNY-TV in reruns include those on the College's hospitality management program, the entertainment technology program's "Haunted Hotel" and 2001 valedictorian Pedro Rojas, whose personal story of courage and determination appeared last year in newspapers citywide.
