Students, Faculty and Alumni Garner Gold Medals Galore at 2002 Hotel Show

It was a banner year for City Tech students, faculty and alumni at the 2002 International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show at Jacob Javits Center in November. The College's student team took the Gold Medal of the Salon and the DeBragga and Spitler Award for Teamwork on Buffet Presentation. The team also finished in second place in the Marc Sarrazin Buffet Competition with Felicitations of the Jury. In a separate entry, Confectionery Arts Professor Louise Hoffman won a Gold Medal from Paris Gourmet/Patis France for a wedding cake.
Alumnus Anthony Pires '00, pastry chef at
Roy's in the Marriott Wall Street, won best in his category for
a Sugar Presentation, including a cash prize and the Gold Medal
Joseph Donon of the Auguste Escoffier Foundation. Alumni Anthony
Smith '96, pastry chef at the Cosmopolitan Club, and Alexsander
Orman '00 also won Gold Medals of the Salon for Wedding Cake presentations.
In addition, alumnus Dean Waziri '01, executive chef at the Marriott
Mountain Resort & Spa in Vail, Colorado, took a Gold Medal of
the Salon for a Cold Platter Presentation of a Poularde.
