Three New Internet Access Computer Labs for Students Open
The fall 2002 semester brought the opening of three new Internet access computer labs for students in Namm and Voorhees Halls and the College's Ursula C. Schwerin Library. The largest of the three open labs, located in Namm Hall, can accommodate 75 users on both PCs and MACs. The 24-station lab in Voorhees and the 20-station lab in the College library provide similar facilities. The labs, which were made possible by funds provided by the Student Technology Fee approved last year by the CUNY Board of Trustees, support student research by providing access to the Internet and proprietary online resources such as Lexis-Nexis, Ebsco and many other databases and electronic journals.
Construction of the three new labs was completed last summer in a record two months, thanks to the combined efforts of the College's Office of Instructional Technology, the Computing Information Services Department and the Office of Facilities and Operations. Plans call for the installation of additional software in the near future, including Dreamweaver, Visual Studio, Photoshop Elements, Quark, SPSS and Illustrator. These additions will help better serve the varied informational, technological and other needs of all City Tech students across the disciplines.
