"Yes, Virginia, There is a 'Free Lunch'"

Thanks to the generosity of Benito Di Domenico and son Nicholas, who own Downtown Brooklyn's popular Metro Star Cafe on Jay Street, thousands of City Tech students recently enjoyed two days of free breakfasts and lunches.

While the "Man in the Moon" and "Pie in the Sky" are only figments of imagination or figures of speech, any attempt to suggest to City Tech's 11,000-plus students that there's no such thing as a "free lunch" will be met with a resounding "You're wrong!"

Thanks to the generosity of Benito Di Domenico and son Nicholas, who own Downtown Brooklyn's popular Metro Star Cafe on Jay Street, thousands of City Tech students recently enjoyed two days of free breakfasts and lunches. The gesture was the Di Domenicos' way of letting the students know how pleased Metro is to be the college's new food service provider and operator of its two student cafeterias and Faculty & Staff Dining Room.

In addition to the complimentary fare, the Di Domenicos provided assurances that Big B's, as the student cafeterias will now be known, doesn't intend to offer the typical cafeteria-style food so often provided by more institutional food service vendors. "Get ready for something different," said Nicholas. "We're going to change students' minds about eating on campus."

One major ingredient in honoring that commitment is the hiring of Fabrizio Agresta as Big B's executive chef. Agresta, who is sous chef at The Plaza, will be assisted by Nady, Pedro and Ulisse, "each of whom, he said, "brings really outstanding talents to the kitchen. They make a truly terrific team."

Benito Di Domenico

"The Di Domenicos have been a Downtown Brooklyn culinary fixture for a quarter of century," said City Tech President Fred Beaufait, and Metro Star Cafe has been a lunchtime favorite of students, faculty and staff from the day it opened. The college is delighted to have Metro bring to campus what it does so well a block away. I know our students really appreciated the manner by which Benito and Nicholas Di Domenico recently introduced themselves and Big B's to the college community."
