It took three and a half years, from start to finish, to process the request to change City Tech's name through the various governance bodies, but only three and a half minutes for Buildings & Grounds personnel to hang the first banner announcing the change.

The banner went up outside Klitgord Center Auditorium a few hours before City Tech President Fred Beaufait's September 5 convocation for faculty and staff. At the well-attended event marking the beginning of the fall 2002 semester, the president outlined the work that remains to be done in completing City Tech's transition from its community college origins to a premier baccalaureate institution.

The president also announced that preliminary figures show fall 2002 enrollment at 11,800 students. In addition, recent state approval of a new baccalaureate program in architectural technology means that City Tech will now offer 51 career-specific baccalaureate, associate and specialized certificate programs in a wide array of 21st century technologies. Another 10,000 students are enrolled in scores of adult education and workforce development courses and programs.
