Engineering Technology Job Fair Draws Record Crowd

A record number of more than 450 students, résumés in hand and interviewing skills in top form, attended an "Engineering Technology Job Fair" at City Tech's Voorhees Hall on March 7. Organized and coordinated by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Younger Member Forum, the City Tech ASCE student club and the college's Department of Construction Technology and Placement Office, the fair attracted students majoring in the civil engineering, construction management, environmental control, electrical, mechanical, architectural and related technologies at colleges city-wide. They came from schools as nearby as Downtown Brooklyn's Polytechnic University and as distant as City College in the upper reaches of Manhattan. A dozen major employers participated in the annual event, including the New York City Department of Transportation, Vollmer Associates, LLP, Camp, Dresser & McKee, Inc., DMJM Harris, and other top engineering and technology concerns.

"This was the college's best attended job fair in recent years," said Adrian Griffith, City Tech's director of placement. "What's more, the employers I spoke with were very pleased by the turnout and especially impressed with this year's pool of applicants and by how well they presented themselves in preliminary interviews."

Griffith also reports that the college's Placement Office will be sponsoring more and bigger job fairs in the months ahead. "Major employers from throughout the metropolitan area are increasingly turning to City Tech for the skilled human resources they need," he added. "These include outfits like Marriott International, Con Edison, Canon Business Solutions and the New York State Unified Court System."
