Women's History Month Luncheon Honors HRA Commissioner Verna Eggleston

Verna Eggleston, Commissioner of the New York City Human Resources Administration, was honored by City Tech's Black Women's Networking Committee at its annual Women's History Month Luncheon on March 19. As commissioner, Eggleston is chief executive officer of the nation's largest municipal social services system, with a budget of over $5.6 billion and approximately 14,000 employees. As an authority and spokesperson on diverse issues confronting today's youth, she has worked with Oprah Winfrey on the Oprah Bill and with U.S. Secretary of Education Richard Riley's Commission on Safe Schools. In addition, she has lobbied former President Bill Clinton, former Vice President Al Gore, New York Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton and former Attorney General Janet Reno on the need for hate crimes legislation and on various youth violence and mental health issues.
