SPS Reunion and Donor Plaque Unveiling Mark Memorable Evening in November
More than 300 donors and School of Professional Studies alumni, current students, faculty, staff and other guests attended a “Tastes of New York/Casino Night” Alumni Reunion Dinner Dance and Distinguished Donors Plaque unveiling on November 6, 2010, in New York City College of Technology’s Namm Hall in Downtown Brooklyn. The evening featured fine foods of New York’s great neighborhoods prepared by the College’s culinary and pastry arts students and faculty and outside catering, a three-piece live band, a live DJ and dancing, plus professionally-staged casino games and a Chinese auction. Visual displays and a video produced by graphic designer Al Vargas included scenes from New York City neighborhoods and photos from City Tech yearbooks that featured School of Professional Studies students and faculty across the years.
The evening began in the College’s Atrium Gallery with the unveiling of the 2010 Distinguished Donors Plaque, which lists the names of the more than 450 individuals and organizations that made contributions to the College during the year. Each subsequent year, alumni, faculty, staff and other contributors to City Tech will have an opportunity to be listed on similar plaques to be permanently displayed in the College’s new Welcome Center.
Speakers at the two events included City Tech President Russell K. Hotzler and Alumni Association President Yvonne Riley-Tepie ’92. Department of Restorative Dentistry Professor Nicholas Manos emceed a short program during the reunion at which dental laboratory technician program graduate Norman Russell ‘76, senior product systems representative for Nobel Biocare, was honored in recognition of his role in securing state-of-the-art equipment over the years for an academic program regarded as one of the finest in the country and its teaching labs among the nation’s best.
