VIII. THE EVALUATION TEAM

New York City College of Technology operates within many layers of context and constraints. As part of the City University of New York, a large, public, multicultural, and urban system, the College’s policies, procedures, and budget are determined by New York State and the CUNY Board of Trustees and Central administration, as well as the negotiated contract with the Professional Staff Congress. In addition, the College is highly accredited, with many of its programs regularly evaluated by ABET, NCATE, the National League for Nursing, and other professional organizations, and its graduates subject to licensing examinations in their disciplines. Besides the official requirements deriving from these associations, the College also must remain attuned to the market and industry forces affecting the training and employability of graduates. Nevertheless, while being responsive to these multiple masters, it is essential that the College forge its own identity, maintain relative autonomy, control its own governance, and be the first evaluator of its programs.
An evaluation team whose chair and members have expertise and demonstrated leadership in some of the following areas would be best able to understand and interpret the situation and needs of the College and to assist us in planning to meet internal or external challenges:

  • Public, urban and multicultural university system with multiple colleges offering associate and baccalaureate degree programs.
  • Architectural, Engineering or Entertainment Technology and Design associate’s and bachelor’s degree programs.
  • Business, Legal Studies, Hospitality Management, Health or Human Services associate’s and bachelor’s degree programs.
  • Developmental education and English-as-a-second language programs.
  • Assessment of student learning in General Education and Career programs.
  • Integrated academic and student affairs first-year programs for a diverse urban student body.
  • Enrollment management, retention, student development and support programs
  • New definition of the Library’s space and functions
