POSITION DESCRIPTION AND
DUTIES |
|
|
The Law and
Paralegal Studies Department seeks a full-time tenure-track faculty member
at the Assistant Professor level to join our growing program. Our
associate and baccalaureate degree programs are ABA approved, and we are
the only CUNY college to offer an ABA approved BS degree in “Legal
Assistant Studies.” The department’s full-time faculty is made up of
licensed attorneys. The curriculum prepares our students to be competent
paralegals. Our degrees address the practical and essential issues needed
in the profession; students are introduced to the legal system and various
courts, procedural rules needed to assist attorneys in the practice of
law, and research both in and out of the law office. Critical thinking and
oral and written communication are enforced throughout the curriculum.
Program graduates are employed in
private law firms of various sizes, in corporate law departments, in
federal, state and local government agencies and the courts, and in
agencies providing legal services for the poor. Faculty are responsible for teaching a range of legal
courses, conducting academic advisement and registration, developing
curricula, and conducting appropriate research. Committee and departmental
participation is required, as well as professional development activities
leading to presentations and publications. |
