POSITION DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES

The Department of Computer Engineering Technology at New York City College of Technology, CUNY, offers two programs: Electromechanical Engineering Technology, leading to an Associate in Applied Sciences (AAS degree), and Computer Engineering Technology, which leads to a Bachelor of Technology degree.
The department teaches students in the basics of electrical technology, mechanical technology, computer hardware, computer software and computer networking; and integration of these technologies with computer control of electromechanical devices.
The department’s broad mandate is the application of computer control of electromechanical devices, making use of microcontrollers and embedded systems hardware and software in a process of continuous curriculum development for the Electromechanical and Computer Engineering Technology programs. Current goals include course development in Digital Signal Processing (DSP), Optical Networking, and Biomedical Engineering. We are pursuing an ambitious program of developing methodologies including use of the Linux OS for Teaching and Research, use of Complex Programmable Logic Devices (CPLDs) and Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) for Digital Electronics Courses; incorporation of Multiprocessors Systems, Communications Protocols, Optimal Control and Sample-Data Systems, Embedded System and Sensor Networking; research applications of Fuzzy Logic and Neutral Networks in Embedded Systems; applications of Embedded Systems for the Entertainment Industry and Animatronics; and investigation of Cryptography and Quantum Cryptography with applications to Network Security.

The department is looking for qualified individuals to fill tenure track positions at the assistant professor level to teach courses in several required and elective areas and contribute to new initiatives. In addition to a strong interest in undergraduate teaching, candidates should have well developed research interests in areas(s) related to the program.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Position 1: Ph.D. (or Master’s and Professional Engineer license) in electrical or computer engineering plus a minimum of 3 year’s experience with embedded systems hardware; experience with firmware or software development is highly desirable.

Position 2: Ph.D. (or Master’s and Professional Engineer License) in engineering (electrical or computer engineering preferred), computer science, or related discipline with minimum of 3 years experience in embedded systems software development; experience with associated hardware is highly desirable. Candidates with advanced degrees in computer science or other non-engineering disciplines should have at least one degree (Associate’s or Bachelor’s) in a relevant branch of engineering or engineering technology.

Position 3: Ph.D. (or Master’s and Professional Engineer License) in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related discipline with minimum 3 years experience in electromechanical systems or related areas. Candidates with advanced degrees in electrical engineering should have at least one degree (Associate’s or Bachelor’s) in mechanical engineering or mechanical engineering technology. Candidates with advanced degrees in mechanical engineering should have a substantial background in at least one other related field (electrical engineering, computer science, etc.) Experience with CAD and CAE software is highly desirable.
