POSITION DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES


 

New York City College of Technology, a comprehensive college of over 13,000 students in downtown Brooklyn, offering associate and baccalaureate degrees, is searching for a candidate to fill a tenure track line in Speech in the Humanities Department. The Humanities Department offers the college’s general education courses in foreign languages, art history, music, performing arts, and theatre and speech—Voice and Diction, Effective Speaking, Group Discussion Methods, Oral Interpretation of Literature, and Communication for Business, Industry and the Professions. Interest in curriculum development to expand course offerings in Speech, and ability to utilize technology enhanced pedagogical methods are desirable. The position requires an energetic individual willing to work collaboratively with other members of the college community. Responsibilities in addition to teaching include academic advisement, committee and departmental assignments, mentoring, professional development and other scholarly work leading to publications and presentations.



QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS



Ph.D. required, preferably in Linguistics or Communication; Ph.D. in Theatre will be considered. Candidates with experience in teaching Voice and Diction, and Effective Speaking will be favored. Demonstrated ability to interact with students in a multicultural environment is preferred. Experience in curriculum development, instructional technology, innovative pedagogy is desirable. Evidence of continuing scholarly growth is required. Experience in grant proposal writing is a plus.
