Peter J. Caffrey, who had come to the College from Bronx Community College in 1969 to serve as Dean of the College under President Milton Bassin, briefly served as acting president in 1971, following Bassin’s resignation. Six years later, he again took charge during a nationwide search for a new president.
Caffrey was an alumnus of St. Francis College in Loretto, Pennsylvania, and received a master’s degree from St. John’s University. He had taught English and speech at Bronx Community College.
