The City Tech Foundation is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation chartered in 1981 under the laws of the State of New York. It is charged with the solicitation and acceptance of gifts to the college in support of City Tech's educational mission and programs. Gifts may be made in the form of cash contributions, credit card gifts, corporate matching gifts, gifts-in-kind, gifts of appreciated securities, commemorative gifts, gifts of life insurance and gifts of bequest. Gifts may be given with or without restrictions.
It's no secret that tax-levy assistance for higher education isn't what it used to be and that publicly-assisted colleges everywhere are increasingly reliant on private contributions to augment their tax support. At City Tech, responding to this challenge is the ongoing task of the City Tech Foundation.
In addition to raising in excess of one million dollars for a variety of student scholarship and other financial assistance programs, the foundation has secured a million dollars more in recent years in donated equipment to enhance both the educational and operational activities of the college. It has also helped to acquire resources to outfit the college's engineering and computer laboratories, learning centers and library, and has provided special incentives to attract and retain top-flight faculty. It maintains a special student revolving loan fund to help cover the cost of textbooks and other educational essentials so that no student's education need suffer for want of basic learning tools.
Foundation fundraising activities include the annual Best of New York Award Dinner which honors outstanding New Yorkers and local and national organizations for their contributions to the economic, educational and cultural life of the city. Other annual fundraising activities include a Gifts and Services Live & Silent Auction that supports enhancement of the college library's textbooks on reserve collection, a student-staffed Alumni Phonathon, the annual College Appeal, and a new Corporate Scholarship Program which allows contributors to give in a restricted or unrestricted manner. Many faculty and staff also earmark part or all of their contributions to the university-wide CUNY Campaign for Voluntary Charitable Giving to City Tech Foundation-sponsored student assistance programs. The foundation also provides scholarship aid from private philanthropic and corporate supporters.
In the years ahead, the foundation will continue to reach out to all good friends of the college, confident that they will continue to help provide the tools and resources needed to guarantee a first-rate education for the thousands of young men and women whose academic success today is essential to a better tomorrow for all of us.
